How can surgery affect the body?

Surgery and the resultant recovery period can sometimes lead to an impairment in patients’ physical and mental wellbeing. Physiotherapy is often required to help patients to recover post surgery and to return to their normal activities.

Orthopaeadic surgery can have a direct effect on the way we move, often causing pain, weakness and stiffness of joints. Other types of surgery may have a less direct effect on your muscles and joints, but can still lead to similar physical changes and decreased function.
